River Forest, Ill.- The Cougar women returned to River Forest tonight looking to snap their season long three game losing streak. Last game against MSOE, the Raiders took the Cougars all the way until the final seconds where CUC squeaked out a two point victory up in Milwaukee. The Cougars came out like a team wanting to clinch a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference spot for the second straight year. Clicking on both ends of the floor, CUC cruised to an easy 85-59 victory.
After the last few games of getting off to rough starts, tonight's game began at the pace the Cougars wanted. Concordia-Chicago were flying all over the court with a quick five points from both Crystal Corr and Taylor Jacobsen. However, the Raiders were hanging basket for basket. Midway through the quarter, the defensive pressure was giving both teams nightmares as the Cougars led 17-14. CUC ended the quarter sinking four straight free throws from Lisa Lubben and T. Jacobsen to give them a 21-14 lead after the first.
MSOE came right back at the start of the second quarter with a 10-0 run, but T. Jacobsen quickly responded with a three of her own to tie the game at 24. With the game tied at 29, Sophia Leon gave CUC the lead with back to back threes from both wings as CUC went on an 8-0 run to force a Raiders timeout. The Cougars remained on fire from the floor, back to back threes again from Leon and Maddie Vojacek as CUC closed out the half on a 16-0 run to lead 45-29 at halftime.
The third quarter started off real slow as neither team couldn't find a rhythm coming out of halftime. Midway through the third though, the Cougars started feeling what they had for much of the first half. Leon and Corr continued to do work in the paint and behind the arc to expand their lead to 56-35. Concordia-Chicago closed out the quarter well when Allison Barry converted on an and one and another layup as time expired to take a 64-40 lead heading into the fourth.
The Cougars didn't let the Raiders back into the game in the fourth as the Cougars continued to play their game and even extend their lead to as much as 28 on an Erin Jacobsen three. Concordia-Chicago closed out the game to clinch a spot in the NACC playoffs with an 85-59 win over the Raiders.
T. Jacobsen had a game high 21 points (5-13 FG, 9-9 FT), five rebounds, and four assists. Corr nearly had another double-double as she finished with 13 points (5-7 FG), and nine rebounds.
The Cougars (16-6, 12-5 NACC) will return to action this Saturday when they take on Benedictine University. Tip off is set for 4:15pm.
