Naperville, Ill.- The Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse opened the 2018 campaign this afternoon against North Central. Under new direction in first year head coach Brian Welch, the Cougars look to improve throughout the year with a relatively young and inexperienced roster. The youth showed as the Cardinals came out of the gate flexing their will in a 23-0 victory over Concordia-Chicago.
The start of the game wasn't ideal for Concordia-Chicago. Within the first minute, North Central were able to get by the CUC defense and get on the board. The rest of the quarter was dominated by the Cardinals as they controlled the ball and was the more physical team leading them to an 8-0 lead at the end of one.
The second quarter was much of the same from the Cardinals point of view. North Central's defense was stifling as the Cougars could not get a shot attempt the entire first half. NCC continued to put the pressure on the offensive end taking a 13-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was clear that the Cardinals didn't want the Cougars to get any momentum to make a run. North Central came out of the gate tacking onto their lead as Concordia-Chicago couldn't find anything on the offensive end only mustering one shot. The Cardinals cruised to an easy 23-0 victory.
Brian Harris was credited with the lone shot for the Cougars. Freshman Jack Liskey made 13 saves.
The Cougars (0-1) returns to action next Saturday for its home opener against Northland College. Face-off is set for 12:00pm.
