Cougars Come Up Short Against Edgewood

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago Cougars looked to pick up their third conference win as they took on Edgewood College from Geiseman Gymnasium tonight. The Cougars came off of a loss to CUW Tuesday night, but hoped to turn things around with a big conference win against the undefeated Eagles. The Eagles were able to build a nine point lead at the half, and were able to build from there, defeating CUC by a final score of 58-40.

           INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  •       Jada Dixon led the team with 11 points.
  •       CUC had 17 points off of the bench.
  •       CUC totaled six steals on the day.

Both teams played lockdown defense to start of the quarter, keeping the score at 10-6 in favor of Edgewood with less than four minutes to go in the quarter. Thornton scored all six of the Cougars' points to start the game and would end with eight on the day. A charge taken by Sarah Ludwig gave the Cougars momentum. At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles lead the Cougars 17-10.

To start the second quarter, Edgewood continued to move the ball around well and outscore Concordia-Chicago. A deflection from Maddie Vojacek led to a steal from Ludwig that served as a spark for the Concordia-Chicago offense. Unfortunately, for the Cougars, Edgewood was able to keep their offense going, building their lead to 26-17 at the half.

CUC brought energy out of the locker room to start the second half, cutting the Edgewood lead to seven points. Thornton got the offense going. Kayla Horlacher followed with a deep three, and Dixon added a long jumper. CUC ended the third with a jumper from Ludwig, but still found themselves trailing 38-28.

In the fourth, Dixon countered an initial Edgewood layup with a three to get CUC back within nine. The fourth begins with a three-pointer from Jada Dixon to bring the lead within nine. CUC battled, but would not be able to get any closer in the quarter, as Edgewood pulled away for the 58-40 victory.

The Cougars continue conference play Tuesday, December 4th at Wisconsin Lutheran College, looking to pick up their third NACC win of the year. Opening tip is set for 7:00pm.
