CUC Comes Up Short at Webster

St. Louis, MO. – After falling to Spalding University last night in the opening game of the Cavallo Tip-Off classic, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team took to the floor against the host Webster University Gorloks this afternoon. CUC struggled to get the offense going in the first half, and a big second half run by Webster downed the Cougars by a final score of 73-44.

CUC opened the second quarter with a Michaela Thornton jumper to cut into the Webster lead. The Gorloks countered with a 10-0 run to build their lead to 16. The Cougars did get going a bit before the half, getting more free throws from Bloom and layups by Annika Rae and Sarah Ludwig to cut the deficit to 35-23 at the break.

The Cougars opened the second half with a 7-2 run which was powered by two Sam Bloom layups and a three from Kayla Horlacher which pulled CUC back within seven. Webster countered once again, going on a 24-4 run over the last seven minutes to take a 61-34 lead after three quarters.

Webster was able to continue to maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter, defeating CUC by a final score of 73-44.
