MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia-Chicago took on Concordia Wisconsin today in the NACC quarterfinals, with a physical match up that ended 1-0 in favor of the Falcons to advance to the semifinals.
The Cougars came out aggressive and dominated the Falcons through the first 25 minutes of play. Pressing hard, CUC managed to get four shots off, three on goal, and had CUW's defense scrambling.Â
However, in the 26th minute of play, a yellow card offered CUW a free kick in dangerous position. While Concordia-Chicago managed to stop the shot, the Falcons went on to stunt the Cougars' offensive efforts. Over the remainder of the half, Concordia Wisconsin took five more shots and ended the half with the 6-4 shot count advantage.
As the second half opened up, the Falcons continued to control the game's momentum. In the 66th minute, CUW finally broke through and scored after earning a breakaway on a mishandled Cougar ball.Â
Concordia Wisconsin's goal left CUC with 23 minutes left to respond, but the Cougars were ultimately unable to find the back of the net.Â
On the day, CUW earned nine corners opposed to none for Concordia-Chicago. The Cougars were also out shot, 17-5.Â
CUC women's soccer will return to the pitch in the fall of 2019. Â
