EVANSTON, Ill. -- In their season finale, the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team headed to Northwestern University to take on the Big 10 team. Despite CUC's back line working incredibly hard and blocking shots left and right, the team struggled to string together an offensive strategy, as the Cougars eventually fell 6-0Â to the Wildcats.
CUC held the Wildcats scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play. However, at the 24:34 mark, NU earned its third corner kick of the night and struck from just in front of the net. Over the next 25 minutes, Northwestern would continue to apply the pressure as defenders
Bryce Bilodeau and
Patrick Hopkins worked to shut down the Wildcats' 14 first-half shots. Despite the efforts, the Cougars trailed 3-0 heading into the halftime break.
Â
NU kept its foot on the gas throughout the remainder of the game, as the Wildcats took 12 second-half shots. Wildcat Camden Buescher made his presence known in the last half of play, scoring two goals to pull his team away to a 6-0 lead.Â
With the Cougars' netminders facing 26 shots over the course of the game, the trio of
Jose Retana,
Panagiotis Zervas and
Zachary Adamec combined for 6 saves.
Tonight's match up concluded Concordia-Chicago's 2018 season, the Cougars will return to the pitch in 2019.
