Cougars Overrun by Reasnover, Red Devils

River Forest, IL- After suffering a tough loss on Homecoming to Aurora University, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars were back at home this afternoon to take on the undefeated Red Devils of Eureka College with the intention of handing them their first loss in conference and overall. The Cougars were simply overpowered by the tough Eureka squad, led by Le'Anthony Reasnover's 201 rushing yards and five touchdowns, and dropped the game by a final of 44-14.
Concordia-Chicago received to open the game but came up empty and were forced to punt. Eureka took advantage of their field position and struck first on the scoreboard to make it 7-0.

Robert Dominguez looked to bring CUC back moments later as he would take a swing route 74 yards into Red Devil territory on the next possession, but the Cougars would end up missing the field goal on fourth down. Once again, the Eureka offense would answer in a big way, only taking two plays to move 70 yards and score for a 14-0 lead.

The Cougars took the field on offense and had an impressive drive of their own. Griffin Beaudette would find Eric Hoff for a long gain, setting up a four-yard Tylor Martens rushing touchdown to trim the lead to 14-7 late in the first quarter. The first quarter would end in that same score.
Moving into the second quarter, Concordia-Chicago needed a huge stop to shift the momentum, but they could not stop the dominant Red Devils' offense and found themselves back down two touchdowns. Eureka later added another touchdown to go up three scores before Martens would sniff out the end-zone from seven yards out to shrink the lead back to 28-14 late in the second quarter. However, Eureka got the last word for the half as they drove the field in 10 plays, gaining 71 yards and kicking a field goal for the 31-14 lead at the break.
In the beginning of the second half, the Cougars stopped a long Eureka drive at the eight yard line to take over on downs. CUC would not capitalize, and the Red Devils would make them pay, scoring another touchdown. Eureka added a final score with six minutes left to account for the final score of 44-14.

Eureka finished with 526 total yards of offense, 346 on the ground, while CUC was limited to 264 yards, 150 in the air. The Red Devils won the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin.

Defensively for CUC, Thaddous Daniel led the way with 15 tackles (six solo). Rodolfo Payan added 13 (eight solo), and Matt Henning was also in double figures with 11 (six solo). Daryus Lemons had the lone takeaway, a fourth-quarter fumble recovery.

Concordia-Chicago will be back in action against Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, October 20, in Mequon, WI.
