Cougars' Quest for Goals Continues in Texas

Sept. 8, 2017 - The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team traveled to Dallas, TX for the weekend, hoping that two matches would get them on track after a rough 0-3 start at home. However, game one of the two-game weekend saw the team continue its early-season goal drought as they were defeated by the University of Dallas/Texas 2-0 on a warm late summer evening.

The host Comets bolted to a fast start, putting the pressure on the Cougars early. UTD took 12 shots in the first half to CUC's three, but Ally Krajnak stood tall once again in goal, making five saves and keeping the home team off the scoreboard. Concordia-Chicago's chances came midway through the half as Esther Annoreno had a shot blocked, with a follow-up by Samantha Goodlett going wide right. Minutes later, Sarah LaCost had a chance on net, with UTD's Monica Dellacasa making her lone save of the half.

With the start of the second half, the Comets picked up their attack, and they were rewarded in the 55th minute as Jessica Rusk beat Krajnak with a high shot from 20 yards out. Following the goal, the Cougars had just two shots at an equalizer, both by sophomore Samantha Wozniak. Her final chance came with less than a minute left with a header that sailed high. The Comets then charged down the field on a counter and scored the insurance goal with just 10 seconds remaining.

The final shots total went to Texas/Dallas by a margin of 29-12. Krajnak finished with 10 saves.

Concordia-Chicago (0-4) will return to action on Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they take on Willamette University.
