Sept. 16, 2017 - After earning two results in their previous two matches, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Soccer team took to the road this evening to face Illinois College. It was a warm and humid night for soccer, and the Cougars would continue to get their offense rolling. Two goals by freshmen would make the difference in a 2-0 win, along with the Cougars defensive ability to keep the Lady Blues off the scoreboard.
Â
The Cougars were the aggressors for the half, putting eight of their ten shots on net. Their efforts would not be rewarded until the 43
rd minute. A cross from the right side fell to the foot of
Cecilia Kochanek who buried her first career goal from eight yards out.
Sierra Poor and
Meghan Vasseur would get credited with the assists on the play. The goal made it 1-0 Cougars after the first 45 minutes.
Â
CUC continued their strong offensive showing in the second half. This time, it didn't take as long to find the back of the net. It was
Samantha Goodlett with the strike from 25 yards out over the outstretched arms of the Illinois College goalkeeper to make it 2-0 Cougars. CUC took 12 total shots in the half as well while limiting the Lady Blues to just six shots in total for the match. All three that were on net were stopped by
Madeline Kroll for the Cougars.
Â
The Cougars (1-4-2) now will ready for NACC play which will open on Wednesday night at Benedictine. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
