May 19, 2017 - Coming off a solid 8-3 win over Macalester College on Thursday night. the Concordia-Chicago Cougars look to join either the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater or the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the third round of the NCAA III Midwest Regional when they tangle with the Bulldogs of Adrian College tonight at 7:45 p.m.
The Adrian Bulldogs advanced to the second round with a comeback 5-2 win yesterday over the University of St. Thomas (MN). The Bulldogs scored five times in the bottom of the eighth after the Tommies had broken a scoreless deadlock with two in the top of the inning.Â
Right-hander
Keaton Conner (5-3, 3.49 ERA in 59.1 innings) is expected to be on the mound for the Cougars. He will face a potent lineup that features outfielder Ian Mikowski (.475) and shortstop Ryan Dorow (.411). First baseman Miccoy Drzewiecki supplies much of ADrian's power with nine homers, although Dorow is the team's RBI leader with 54.
The Bulldogs are blessed with a tough pitching staff that boasts a collective 3.45 ERA. They are led by three quality starters, with the Cougars likely to face one of two righties - Pierce Banks (8-0, 1.99 ERA in 72.1 innings or Jason Schroeder (6-0, 2.49 ERA in 50.2 innings).Â
Concordia and Adrian have met in the regionals three previous times. CUC won 3-2 in the 2013 regional at Augustana, but Adrian downed the Cougars twice in 2014 at the Whitewater regional by scores of 4-1 and 3-2.
