Falcons Stifle Cougars in MWLC Contest

April 22, 2017- Looking to play the role of spoiler on a beautiful day in along the shores of Lake Michigan in Mequon, Wisconsin, the Concordia-Chicago Women's Lacrosse team took to the field to take on the Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons. It was senior day for the Falcons, while they also had an opportunity to clinch the regular season MWLC title. The Cougars showed fight throughout against the defending champs, but the Falcons stiff defense kept the Cougars from making a run. The Cougars fell by a final score of 14-4.

CUW rattled off three straight goals in the first five minutes to gain momentum early. The Cougar defense in front of Krystal Phillips then settled in, not allowing another goal for over 13 minutes of play. This gave CUC an opportunity to score when Sydney Fuller found Margaret Doane to cut the deficit to 3-1. Unfortunately for CUC the Falcons rattled off the next five goals in the half to take the commanding 8-1 lead.

The Cougars continued to stay upbeat in their efforts in the second half. Doane picked up her second goal of the game on a free position shot to begin the second half. CUW then made another run to pull away. CUC was able to get goals by Anna Kellar and Fuller late, but it would not be enough to topple the Falcons.

The Cougars will now return home on Monday to resume the match with Elmhurst College. The game will begin late in the first half. It is set to begin at 6pm in River Forest.
