CUC Welcomes Benedictine for Battle of NACC Unbeatens

Tonight marks the first of three basketball home events in the North Gym as our women will look to maintain their unsullied record thus far with an important contest against conference rival Benedictine University.

When last we looked in on the Cougars, they pounded on Rockford Dec. 2 for a school-record 105 points and a 32-point win that pushed them to 5-0 on the season, 3-0 in conference. Taylor Jacobsen and Sophia Leon continue to provide a formidable one-two punch, combining for 39 points per game. The Cougars are currently tops in the NACC for scoring at 87.4 points per game and are first in other categories such as field-goal percentage (overall and three-point), assists and steals. Courtney Lofink has something to do with those last two, as she leads NACC individuals with 22 steals. Her 35 assists are second in the conference to Edgewood's Brook Lonigro, who CUC will see this Saturday at Geiseman.

The Benedictine Eagles lost their season opener to Augustana College and have since won five straight games, including three in conference play. Besides the 3-0 NACC record, the Eagles and Cougars share other similarities, including three-point shooting, where BenU is draining nine treys per games. Their primary outside gunners are 5'3" guard Venita Parsons (18-41, 44 percent) and 5'11" guard Madisyn Fischer (14-30, 47 percent).
