River Forest, Ill.- Needing a win and some help, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Soccer team took to the field at Concordia Stadium one final time in 2017 trying to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Cougars would create a few chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. CUC did earn the 0-0 draw thanks to strong back line play, and great goalkeeping by
Allyson Krajnak.
Â
The Cougars controlled the pace early in the first half, getting a couple of early looks on net, but Sammie Gelfand stepped up to the challenge keeping the Cougars off the board. Aurora countered in the later parts of the half, but this time it was Krajnak making the important saves to keep the score 0-0 at the half.
Â
In the second half, Aurora started to create a little more on offense taking eight shots with four needing to be saved by Krajnak. CUC came within inches in the 61
st minute when
Samantha Goodlett hit the crossbar.
Sarah LaCost then came close as well missing just inches left in the 84
th minute.
Â
The teams both battled tough in the two extra periods with Aurora edging CUC in shots 5-3. Senior Krajnak made a memorable save in the 108
th minute in a one on one situation to keep CUC alive.
Â
The back line made up of
Krista Pojero,
Emma Stone,
Kayla Kreher and
Sara Browne worked hard all afternoon long, keeping the high scoring Spartan offense to very few good chances.
Â
The Cougars finish the 2017 campaign 5-10-3; 4-5-1 NACC. They will be graduating five seniors. Kreher, LaCost, Krajnak,
Katie Biga and
Caycee Benesch. A big thank you to all the Cougar fans for your support this season.Â
