River Forest, Ill.- After a rainout yesterday forced the match to be moved to this afternoon, the Concordia University Chicago Cougar Men's soccer team took to the pitch this afternoon against Wisconsin Lutheran College. Both teams entered play within a game of eachother in the NACC standings, and it was the Warriors who were able to get the offense going early to build a lead that they would have to hold onto late as CUC tried to rally. Unfortunately for CUC they fell just short by a final score of 5-3.
Â
Things looked bleak for the Cougars early on the cool, windy fall day. Goals by WLC in the 8
th, 31
st, and 36
th minutes of the first half had the visiting Warriors in the driver seat heading into halftime.
Â
The Cougars did answer back and show a lot of fight in the second half.
Aymen Maman broke through in the 55
th minute when he was able to create space for himself in front of the net before finishing off his second attempt after the first was initially saved.
Â
Wisconsin Lutheran answered with two goals of their own on a penalty kick and a one on one in the box that pushed their lead to 5-1. The Cougars did not put their heads down though. In the 82
nd minute
Joel Krenz sent a cross from far on the left side into the box where
Chris Arevalo headed it in on the left side of the net, his second goal of the season. The Cougars then cut the Warriors' lead to two when
Ricardo Aragon netted his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick that beat the keeper top shelf on the left side.
Â
The Cougars (2-11; 2-5 NACC) will now ready for the Division Street Rivalry sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. The match will take place on the campus of Dominican University on Wednesday with opening kickoff set for 12:30pm
