April 6, 2016 - After last week's game against Carroll University, the hopes were that the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team would feed off the momentum generated by the milestone win. Instead, the Cougars lost their second straight this evening as the Beloit College Bucs used a 19-goal explosion in the first half and went on to defeat CUC by a 29-4 score at Beloit's Strong Stadium.
The Bucs opened the scoring 1:47 after the opening kickoff and outscored the Cougars 6-0 while holding a lopsided 27-3 edge in shots.
Noah Bachofen (Franklin, WI/H.S.) stood up to the onslaught, making eight saves in the opening 15 minutes. But the real barrage came in the second quarter as Beloit fired another 27 shots, 13 of which found the net. The only CUC shot of the first half that found the net came three minutes before halftime. That came from
Cal Crawford (Stillwater, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) who fired in his team-leading 16th goal of the season.
While the Bucs continued to convert their offensive chances in the third quarter with eight more goals, the Cougars found their best offensive rhythm of the night. They fired 14 shots after managing only a combined eight shots in the first two quarters.
Jordan Loeffler (Orland Hills, IL/Sandburg) scored off an assist from
Adam Ortiz (Chicago, IL/Mount Carmel), and Loeffler later reciprocated as he set up Ortiz for a goal in the final minute of the third.
The fourth quarter was a quiet affair with just a combined three goals scored. Concordia-Chicago's goal came on Crawford's second of the game with 10 minutes remaining.
The final stats showed Beloit with 72 shots to CUC's 27. Bachofen was credited with 18 saves.
Concordia-Chicago wo;; return to the road on Saturday evening when they play at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
