Box Score 2 April 24, 2016 -Â With the scent of another regular-season title in the air, the Concordia-Chicago baseball team won its seventh and eighth consecutive games in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play this afternoon, sweeping the Dominican University Stars at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg by scores of 10-8 and 15-5,
The Cougars' bats were productive the entire day in lifting the team's record to 14-2 in NACC play (26-8 overall). In game  one, the Cougars pounded out 16 hits in taking an early lead and then withstanding a couple of late rallies by the Stars.Â
Grant Davis (Morris, IL/Morris Community)Â started the scoring for CUC after Dominican put up a run in the first inning. Davis doubled to left to drive inÂ
Brady Roberts (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy), who had reached base on a single. Moments later, afterÂ
Colin Bethran (Schaumburg, IL/H.S.)Â walked and stole second,Â
Bryan VanDuser (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North)Â doubled to center, scoring Davis and Bethran for a 3-1 lead in the second.
Concordia-Chicago struck again in the sixth after Dominican brought back a run in the fourth. Davis knocked in his second and third runs off the day with a two-run single, and Davis scored on a double byÂ
Andrew Kroncke (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North). The Stars matched that with a three-spot of their own in the sixth, but the Cougars went back on the attack immediately.Â
Joe Silva (Arlington Heights, IL/Hersey)Â singled andÂ
Andrew Massey (Chicago, IL/St. Rita) doubled for a run. Massey later scored on a fielder's choice, and Kroncke delivered his second run-scoring double of the game as CUC took a 9-5 lead.
Dominican kept up the fight as they put up another three runs in the bottom of the seventh,Â
Brian Musielak (Chicago, IL/Brother Rice) ended the threat, getting the third out of the inning and stranding the tying run in scoring position, The Cougars scored an insurance run in the ninth.
 Mitch Wilson (Oswego, IL/H.S.) and Roberts singled, and Kroncke added a third double to score Wilson. Musielak closed out Domincian in the ninth as CC posted the first-game win.Â
Adam Schumitt (Peoria, IL/Limestone) improved to 4-2 on the year in pitching six innings, allowing eight hits while fanning three.
First basemanÂ
Brent Spohr (Ingleside, IL/Grant Community)Â provided tje hitting as Concordia-Chicago took game two behind an 18-hit attack, Tied 2-2 in the third, Silva singled and Massey walked ahead of Spohr who launched his first homer of 2016 to left, vaulting the Cougars into a 5-2 lead. Spohr was at it again in the fifth, as he followed hits by Silva and Massey with his second three-run blast of the game. The Cougars followed Spohr's second shot with two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by
Kevin Coppin (Lisle, IL/H.S.) and Kroncke as they opened up a big lead. Â
A four-run eighth put the finishing touches on the game-two win. VanDuser's single and Massey's double plated one run. A walk to Spohr brought up Wilson who tripled to the gap in right-center for two runs. Davis' single then scored Wilson for CUC's final run of the day. Dominican scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, but that was not enough as the Cougars held on to their 10-run lead through seven and closed out a successful day in Schaumburg.
Alex Meyers (Edwardsville, IL/H.S.)Â went the distance, allowing 11 hits through seven innings as he improved to 5-1 on the year with the win.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lisle to play two against Benedictine University
