April 2, 2016- In a day that meteorologists could not have been wrong, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars would take on the Augustana Vikings in a non-conference matchup. The game would feature high winds, snow covering the field then melting, rain, and the Vikings flexing their offensive muscles en-route to a 24-2 victory over CUC.
Noah Bachofen (Franklin, WI, Franklin) would be the story of the game for the Cougars, facing a barrage of shots from the Viking attackers, he would make 27 saves in the game. CUC would play strong defensively in the first quarter limiting Augustana to five goals in the first period. CUC would try to get a rally started but would be unsuccessful in mounting a comeback. The Cougars would get one of their goals in the second quarter from
Jordan Loeffler (Orland Hills, IL, Carl Sandburg). He would perfectly place a shot that would bounce past the Viking goalie off of the turf for the first goal of the game for CUC. CUC would get a few more good looks in the quarter but would be denied any further scoring.
CUC would manage to get one more goal in the back of the net in the third quarter. A long arching pass from Backhoften would land in the basket of CUC leading goal scorer
Cal Crawford (Stillwater, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) who would a few steps later launch a shot into the back of the net for his 15th goal of the year.
The Cougars (1-8) will get ready for a Midwest Lacrosse Conference matchup with Beloit (1-7) on Wednesday afternoon. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 5:00p.m from Beloit.
