Sorensen's Streak Continues, But CUC Women Fall at Hamline

March 8, 2016 - The opening road trip of the 2016 season continued this afternoon as the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team played the Pipers of Hamline University. The Cougars dropped the contest by a 16-1 score and saw their record fall to 0-4 on the season.

The loss was similar to this past Saturday's game at Beloit College. Once again, the host team parlayed a big explosion of goals in the first half, In this case, Hamline fired 28 shots on goal in the opening 30 minutes of the game with 13 of them finding the back of the net. CUC goalie Melissa Franco (Wood Dale, IL/Fenton) stood strongly, turning back six of the Pipers' shots.

The Cougars were in danger of being shut out until 4:20 remained in the game. Sonja Sorensen (Berwyn, IL/Walther Lutheran) averted the whitewash as she scored from a free-position situation. The goal was Sorensen's fourth of the season, and she has scored in four consecutive games from the first game of the year. "Sonja has worked extremely hard, like all the girls, and I am glad to see it paying off with her scoring in each game," said CUC head coach Brian Patterson. "Hopefully she will be the spark we need moving forward to get more players in the scoring column on a more consistent basis."

Concordia-Chicago will remain inm St. Paul, MN this evening and prepare to play Northwestern University on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
