East Coast Swing Hits Peak But Cougar Men Fall

March 8, 2016 - With spring break at its peak, the Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse team continued its journey toward the east coast. In today's stop at Methodist University, the easternmost part of the trip, CUC battled tough, but a 10-1 Methodist score in the second quarter quickly put the game out of reach. CUC fell by a final score of 24-4.

Methodist came out and quickly scored the first goal of the game in less than a minute. They went on to score the first five goals of the game. The Cougars ended the Methodist run with a goal with just under five minutes to play in the quarter. Adam Ortiz (Chicago, IL/Mount Carmel) netted his first goal of the season, taking the Cal Crawford (Stillwater, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) pass and finding the back of the net, but CUC still trailed 6-1 after the first quarter.

The Cougars found themselves in trouble in the second quarter. Methodist quickly scored the first two goals of the quarter, forcing a timeout. CUC earned a man-advantage but was unable to take advantage of it. Methodist continued to work the ball forward and build on their lead. With 7:24 left in the half, Crawford scored for CUC to try and start a rally. Methodist continued to play well, however, and would lead CUC 16-2 at the halftime break.

Coming out of the halftime break, Crawford won the opening faceoff and promptly took it down the field to score his second goal of the match and fifth of the season. CUC continued to look for ways to inch closer in the game, but would only score one more time with under a minute left in the fourth when Crawford tallied his third goal of the match.

The Cougars will continue their spring break trip tomorrow afternoon when they take on Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.(EST)
