Box Score 3 March 2, 2016 - Not many college freshmen have the impact on opening weekend that outfielder
Keegan Tyrell (Joliet, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) had for the CUC baseball team. Tyrell's contributions to the Cougars' 3-0 start earned him the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's Studant-Athlete of the Week for baseball (position players) as well as Concordia-Chicago's Men's Athlete of the Week, both honors for the week of Feb. 22-28.
Tyrell's first mark was key in the Cougars' 3-2 win in 14 innings over Webster University Feb. 27. He came up with one out in the eighth and CUC trailing 2-1 before hitting a towering shot to left for his first collegiate hit and homer. Later, with the bases loaded in the 14th, he patiently worked a walk to forcec in what would be the winning run. Tyrell added two hits the following day against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a 4-1 win, giving him a .429 batting average over the first two games.
Tyrell is a sports management major.
