Oct. 5, 2016Â - The second stop of a three-game road string resulted in the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team still in search of their first win in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. The Cougars' offense was bottled up by the host Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, and they fell to 0-4 in the NACC with a 2-0 loss under the lights in Milwaukee.
The Cougars had an opportunity in the fifth minute, but a shot by
Roberto Avila went wide left. Two minutes later, the Warriors were awarded a corner kick and capitalized as Enrique Arreola knocked in the cross from Isaiah Gronholz.
As the first half progressed, the Warriors' defense was able to keep the CUC scoring chances less frequent.
Fabian Robles found two chances midway through the half, one of which was saved by the WLC keeper.Â
Hayden Boyd also looked to score, but his shot was blocked by a defender. The hosts outshot the Cougars 15-6 for the half but still had a mere 1-0 lead at the break.
Concordia-Chicago came out for the second half on the attack. They fired seven shots at the WLC net, with Warriors' keeper Erik Lehnen required to make saves on Robles andÂ
Gibril Jobe. Eventually, Wisconsin Lutheran turned the tables and began to pressure the CUC goal.Â
Roberto Aragon was up to the task, making 13 second-half saves (17 for the game). However, the Warriors scored the all-important insurance goal off another corner kick, Juan Serna converting the Gronholz cross. Following the goal, the Warriors packed in the defense, allowing CUC just one shot over the final 20 minutes, and the game finished with the Cougars suffering the two-goal defeat.
The Cougars (2-8-0 overall) will return to Wisconsin on Saturday for a match at Lakeland College. Kickoff is at approximately 3:30 p.m., following the women's match.
