Men's Season Ends with Loss to Raiders

Oct. 26, 2016 - A difficult season came to a close this evening for the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team. The Cougars ran up against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders, who were playing for a first-round home match in the conference tournament. CUC kept it close for much of the first half, but a three-goal explosion in a five-minute span blew the game wide open as the Raiders rolled to a 6-0 win.

The Raiders had a couple of early chances, but Roberto Aragon made a save against Sean Tabbert and the defense blocked a shot by MSOE's top scorer Braden Andryk. As the half progressed, the Cougars saw their first couple of opportunities, but shots by Diego Ramirez and Roberto Avila sailed wide. In the 22nd minute, MSOE finally broke the ice as Tabbert took a thru ball and beat Aragon one-on-one for the opening marker.

The score remained 1-0 until the 41st minute when MSOE hit CUC for a quick three. Drew Baumann and Brandon Herman scored on headers off corner kicks 68 secondas apart. Andryk then made it 4-0 with 33 seconds left as he weaved through the defense and shot inside the far post from just inside the box.

MSOE outshot CUC 16-4 in the first half. Aragon was called on to make six saves while Avila's shot was the only Cougars' shot that required the Raiders' keeper to make a save.

The home team finished the evening with its final two goals in the 53rd and 85th minutes. Aragon made two more saves in the half before giving way to Jose Retana, who made three saves in his first action of the season. FReshman Panagiotis Zervas also got into the game and had the Cougars' other shot on goal.

The Cougars finish the season with a 3-13-0 record, 1-9-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
