Eagles Push Past Cougars 2-0

October 12, 2016- After defeating a tough Benedictine University Eagles team a year ago, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars would take to the rainy River Forest pitch today, looking to make it two straight wins against the Eagles. Benedictine took the lead late in the first half, and were able to double the lead early in the second. CUC was unable to get any high quality looks till late. The Eagles defense held steady leading to a 2-0 Eagle win over CUC.

The first good scoring chance for either team came in the 19th minute. A unfortunate deflection gave the Eagles a free run at the goal. Charging quickly on the breakaway was Cougar goalie Roberto Aragon. The diving outstretched Aragon got enough of the shot to knock it down and keep the match tied at zero.

Benedictine was able to break the scoreless tie in the 30th minute. A pass got the ball to Nick Kapetanos inside the box. Using quick footwork he created enough space to rip off a shot past an outstretched Aragon to make it 1-0 Eagles. The Eagles doubled the score in the 51st minute. This time it was Kapetanos setting up Francisco Delgado in the middle of the box, who tapped it into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Eagles.

CUC had their best scoring opportunities in the 82nd-84th minute. The Cougars were awarded three straight corners. They were able to get one shot on net that looked to be going in but was grabbed at the last second by the Benedictine goalie. Gibril Jobe also had a one-on-one run at the Benedictine net, but his shot sailed just right of the post.

The Cougars will take the rest of the week to prepare for another NACC match when they take on Rockford University on Saturday. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 12:00pm from Concordia Stadium.
