March 13, 2015 -Â In the Concordia-Chicago baseball team's quest to ascend to the upper ranks for NCAA Division III baseball, head coachÂ
Adam Smith has said that the Cougars are always looking to play the best teams and play at the highest level of competition. Never has that statement rang truer than this weekend as the 13th-ranked Cougars (5-3) will play in quick succession two of the top 25 teams in Tucson, Arizona this weekend.
The action begins this evening as the Cougars take on second-ranked University of St. Thomas at 9:30 p.m. (Chicago time). This will be only the Tommies' second game of 2015, but they are coming off a 39-9 season in 2014 along with an appearance in the Division III World Series. The Cougars and Tommies played head-to-head twice in Tucson last March with UST winning the first game 26-6 and the Cougars prevailing two days later with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory.
The Cougars will spring back into action on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 when they meet Linfield College, another 2014 D-III World Series participant. The Wildcats, 37-9 last season, are currently 11-6 this spring and ranked 21st by D3baseball.com.
Concordia-Chicago will wrap up their weekend at the Kino Sports Complex with a Saturday night (9:30) game against Augsburg College and a Sunday morning (11:00) game against Macalester College. All games will feature live stats via the CUC website at www.cucougars.com.
