Oct. 3, 2015- Coming off a big win last night, the Concordia-Chicago volleyball team had their momentum taken away by a hot Concordia-Wisconsin team. The Falcons took down the Cougars by a score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-20).
The hosts came out attacking early and often, going up 8-3 in the set and forcing a CUC timeout. The Falcons continued to put the pressure on the Cougar back line and finish off the first set.
The second set would also be all in favor of the home Falcons who again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the set. The Cougars would had a tough time getting the attack going in any of the three sets, but would manage just four kills in the second set along with four attack errors.
In set three, CUC would show some fight. The Cougars jumped out to an early 6-3 lead with kills from both
Mary Arredia (Franklin Park, IL/West Leyden) and
Austin Thompson (Morris, IL/Morris Community). CUW fought back to tie the score up at seven. Both teams traded points until the Cougars went on a 6-1 scoring run, giving them a 18-13 lead and forcing a Falcon timeout. The Falcons came out of the timeout firing on all cylinders. They countered the Cougar run with a 12-2 run on their own to take the set and the match.
The Cougars (7-11, 2-2 NACC) will have a week to rest up before taking on Alverno College in a NACC matchup in Geisman Gymnasium next Saturday evening at 6 p.m.Â
