Oct.17, 2015 - The Concordia-Chicago Cougars put together one of their most dominating performances in sunny Milwaukee this afternoon en route to their fifth straight win. The Cougars defeated Alverno College by a final tally of 3-0.
The Cougars were on the attack all afternoon long. In total, they would take 35 shots on the afternoon, forcing the Alverno keeper to make 20 saves. The Cougars' first breakthrough would come in just the eighth minute of play.
Natalie Weinhold (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran St. Charles)Â found the back of the net for the Cougars as she showed off her dribbling ability, weaving through three Inferno defenders before burying the shot for the 1-0 lead.
Just under 10 minutes later, the Cougars doubled their lead. CUC created a good build-up forward on the far side of the field.
Stephanie Brown (Streamwood, IL/H.S.) was fouled near the end line just outside of the box. Â
Kahla Walker (Peoria, IL/Notre Dame)Â took the free kick for CUC and sent it perfectly into the box, finding the head of
Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IN/Northridge) who would put it home for her fourth goal in the last four games.
Concordia-Chicago head coach
Chris Brown was able to get a lot of his roster playing time on the afternoon. The Cougars continued the offensive assault for the remainder of the half, but would not be able to extend their lead past 2-0 despite outshooting Alverno 20-1 in the half.
The Cougar dominance continued into the second half. They would rip off shot after shot, keeping the ball on the offensive half of the field for most of the half. All the hard work would finally be rewarded again with a goal in the 73
rd minute.
Sarah LaCost (Mount Prospect, IL/Prospect)Â sent a ball in that would find the running
Alexandra Daigle (Springboro, OH/H.S.). Daigle put the finishing touches on the third goal of the afternoon and her second of the season.
On the other end of the pitch, CUC's defense encountered little trouble.Â
Ally Krajnak (Griffith, IN/H.S.) and
Maddie Kroll (Geneva, IL/H.S.) would each play a half in net for the Cougars during the shutout.
"I'm pleased overall with today," said Brown. "We played well, especially in the second half, and did what we needed to do to get a positive result. We were in attack mode all day long, and were creative in the attack as well. It's exciting; we have put ourselves in a position to play meaningful games at the end of the year."
The first of those meaningful games will take place in Concordia Stadium when the Cougars (7-8-0. 4-3-0 NACC) play a critical match against Aurora University on Wednesday, starting at 2 p.m.
