Fuller, Krajnak Lead Cougar Women to Third Consecutive Win

Oct. 10, 2015 - A first-half goal by Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IN/Northridge) was all the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team needed today as they won their third consecutive match this afternoon, 1-0 over Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

While Fuller provided the offense, the Cougars' defense led by goalkeeper Ally Krajnak (Griffith, IN/H.S.) posted its third straight shutout. Krajnak made six saves in today's winning effort and now has a scoreless streak of just over 280 minutes. The Cougars' defense has not allowed a goal since the 60th minute of the Oct. 3 match versus Edgewood College.

Today's non-conference opponent played CUC on fairly even terms for much of the day. Both teams took four shots in the first half, but the Cougars were able to capitalize on one of their five corner kicks. Alisha Johnson (Coal City, IL/H.S.) took the kick in the 24th minute, sending it into the penalty area. A couple of CUC forwards had pushed close to the net but Fuller, trailing the first wave, had the ball come to her foot, and she buried the shot for her second goal in as many games.

Fuller, who provided the insurance goal in yesterday's 2-0 win over Lakeland College, was the second CUC player this week after Shawna Rembold (Rochester, MI/Stoney Creek) in Wednesday's match versus Wisconsin Lutheran College, to celebrate a goal upon stepping into the starting lineup. "All season long, my staff and I have preached to the players, especially the freshmen, that they will all have opportunities at some point to contribute to the team's success," said CUC head coach Chris Brown. "Certainly Shawna and now Sydney have given us a few great examples of that this week, and Ally has been very solid since she returned to
the lineup a few weeks ago. As long as we stay prepared and can seize the opportunities when they come to us, I believe we will grow together and keep producing winning results."

The Cougars (5-8-0) will host another non-conference opponent in Ripon College on Wednesday at 2 p.m., before returning to conference play next weekend.
