Box Score Oct. 1, 2014 - With an important conference battle looming this Saturday, the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team generated some momentum heading into the match at Marian University with a 2-1 win on the road this evening at Beloit College. The win upped the Cougars' overall record to 4-3-2.
The Cougars' goals came from newcomers Johnson Lui (Hong Kong/St. Paul Lutheran, MO) and Ricardo Aragon (Cicero, IL/Morton East), each notching his first goal in a CUC uniform. "We're really happy that we've been able to play a lot of different guys this season," said CUC head coach Micah Middendorf. "There is a lot of quality depth in this program right now, and tonight's result showed that. Johnson and Rocardo are just two examples of guys stepping up when they have the opportunity." The first half was fought on even terms with each team firing six shots. However, just one found the back of the net. That came in the 27th minute as Lui knocked in a rebound of a shot by Joey Malme (Green Bay, WI/NEW Lutheran). In the second half, the Cougars struck for a goal just 47 seconds in. Aragon took a pass from DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) and fired from the left side about 13 yards out. Beloit made a late run as Isaiah Turner-Wyatt scored in the 82nd minute. The Bucs continued to press in search of the tying goal. However, keeper Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East) and the defense in front of him all held firm. Guzman made five saves as the Cougars and Bucs both finished with 16 shots. Concordia-Chicago continues its string of road matches with games Saturday at Marian and next Wednesday at North Central College before returning home to face Lakeland College on Sunday, Oct. 12.
