Box Score Sept. 17, 2013 - For the third time in a week, the Concordia Cougar men's soccer team went down to defeat on a goal in overtime. Today, it was Lawrence University that came up with the goal in the 96th minute to defeat Concordia 2-1 in non-conference play at Appleton, Wisconsin.
Intent on getting off to a fast start, the Cougars stunned the Vikings with a goal just 1:43 after kickoff.
DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) notched his second of the season with the assist going to
Taylor Nehmer (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran). Concordia looked to add to its lead, but shots by
Brendan Mullane (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South), Adam Perolio (Fort Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) and
Dylan Pavlisin (Villa Park, CA/Orange Lutheran) were saved by Vikings' keeper Joe Krivit to keep the halftime score 1-0 Cougars.
Lawrence came out with intensified pressure to begin the second half. Three of their shots were denied but, in the 59th minute, the hosts leveled the score. Jack Blodgett got t a loose ball that came off the crossbar and tucked it into the net for a 1-1 tie.
The game went to overtime, and Nehmer had an opportunity in the first minute that was saved by Krivit. Midway through the extra period, the Vikings' Kelson Warner ended the contest with his header finding the back of the net.
The Vikings finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots. Krivit made eight saves while Cougars' keeper
Roberto Aragon (Cicero, IL/Morton West) was credited with seven.
Concordia (3-4-0) will begin Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play this Saturday when they take on Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
