Box Score Sept. 15, 2013 - The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team went from beautiful, warm temperatures in their previous home game four days earlier to 60-degree temperatures and a steady rain for this afternoon's home match against Illinois College. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the result was the same as they lost on an overtime goalm this time by a 1-0 score.
Concordia enjoyed a 23-12 edge in shots, but the Illinois College defense was up to the task of keeping the ball out of the net.
Daniel Ortiz (Cicero, IL/Morton East) and
DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) were denied chances in the first half, In the second half, the best chances came about a minute apart from
Adam Perolio and
Brendan Mullane (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South), but Jojo Comstock did well to parry the shots andkeep the Blueboys' shutout intact.
On the other end of the field, Aragon stood up to the Blueboys' threats. In particular, two second-half shots – one on a header and the other a hard kick directly in front of goal – saw Aragon exhibit great reactions and quick, sure hands to make the stops.
In the third minute of overtime, Aragon made save number seven to deny the visitors again. However, the next opportunity came moments later as Drew Comstock received the ball in the attack zone. Comstock moved towards the middle, creating a little bit of separation from his defender. His hard shot from about 25 yards out went high over Aragon's reach and just under the crossbar for the decisive 95
th-minute strike.
The Cougars return to action Tuesday with a match at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
