Box Score Oct. 9, 2013 - The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team hosted North Central College this afternoon, a non-conference tuneup before the Cougars get ready for a couple of key Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches over the next week. The visiting Cardinals took control of the match with a pair of first-half goals before adding a late strike for a 3-0 victory.
Edgar Martinez (Chicago, IL/Cristo Rey) made his first start of the season between the posts, and the sophomore played well in making seven saves over the 90 minutes. But he was unable to stop NCC's opening goal in the 10th minute. Charlie Stanke played a cross from left of goal to the right where Jake Muszczynski was perfectly positioned to head the ball home from close range for the 1-0 lead.
The Cougars had an early chance as
DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) was stopped by NCC keeper Kyle DeRaedt in the middle of the box.
Brendan Mullane (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) made some good runs on the right wing throughout the half, but the Cougars were unable to finish connections.
North Central made it a 2-0 game in the 27th minute. Muszczynski scored his second of the match, knocking home a cross from Michael Lenzi from the right side.
Concordia's defense held the visitors to eight shots in the second half but, while the Cougars had better movement in their offensive zone in the half, they could not find the back of the net. North Central scored the only tally of the half, a low shot from 10 yards out by Chandler Olah with 1:49 remaining.
The Cougars (4-8-0) will play at Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon before returning home to host Benedictine University next Tuesday, Oct. 15.
