Aug. 31, 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team began the 2012 season as they did last year with a shutout win over Beloit College. This year, the final score was 2-0 from Beloit's Strong Complex Field on a hot and muggy afternoon.

The first 45 minutes was played on even terms with each teams taking five shots, but one of the Cougars' five found the back of the net. Alyssa Soulis (Grayslkae, IL/Grayslake North), who scored a record-setting 23 goals in 2011, tallied number one on the new season to give Concordia the lead in the 38th minute.

Early in the second half, the Cougars extended the lead to 2-0. Haley Graner (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) scored unassisted in the 50th minute. Concordia had little trouble protecting the lead as they wore down Beloit. The Cougars outshot the Bucs 13-3 in the second half to finish with an 18-8 advantage. Cocnordia's offensive attack was balanced as Soulis, Hillary Campbell (Dyer, IN/Lake Central) and Lilly Poor (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington North) took 12 shots between them.

Sophomore Callie Hasselbring (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) recorded her fifth career shutout in the win. The sophomore made five saves while the Bucs' two keepers made a combined six saves.

Concordia will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 5 when they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the beginning of Northern Athletics Conference play.
