March 18, 2012 - The Concordia Cougars' bid for a sweep at the Rose-Hulman Invitational this weekend came crashing down with this afternoon's 11-2 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University. The loss dropped the Cougars to 9-2 on the season and ended their current winning streak at four.

Nick Skala (Long Grove, IL/St. Viator) gave Concordia an early 1-0 lead. The senior picked on the first pitch he saw from IWU starter Joe Sweeney and drove it out of Sycamore Field for his second homer in the last two days.

The Titans evened the score in the second off Cougars' starter Bobby Beelen (Wheeling, IL/H.S.). Illinois Wesleyan then erupted for five runs in the third as the first six batters reached base. Mark McDermott's double provided the go-ahead hit.

Concordia threatened to get back into the game in the fifth. Shawn Miller (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) led off with a double, and B.J. Weisflog (Grafton, WI/H.S.) followed with a base hit to score Miller and make it a 6-2 game. However, the rally ended as quickly as it started with a double play, one of four that the Titans turned on the day. Illinois Wesleyan later put the game away with five runs in the top of the ninth.

The Cougars will return to action next weekend with a three-game series against Illinois Wesleyan at Horenberger Field in Bloomington.
