Oct. 6, 2012 - The Concordia men's soccer team put forth one of its best efforts of the season in Saturday afternoon's road match at Edgewood College. The Cougars held two leads on the Eagles, only to see the hosts come back twice and finally score the winning goal in double overtime for a 3-2 victory. Concordia's record fell to 1-10-2, 1-4-2 in Northern Athletics Conference play while Edgewood improved to 7-4-1, 5-2-0 NAC.

Senior Alex Lopez (Streamwood, IL/H.S.) gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season in the 19th minute. DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) crossed the ball, and Lopez beat a defender and fired into the net beyond the reach of Chad Silvers.

Andrew Aurit tied the match just before halftime. He beat a couple of defenders to the middle of the penalty area and slotted the ball past Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East).

Concordia reclaimed the lead in the 53rd minute, courtesy of McLaurin's fifth goal of the year. Mclaurin advanced on the goalkeeper, waited for him to come out and challenge before chipping the ball over his head and into the net.

Edgewood evened the score in the 77th minute. Dane Donnely one-touched the ball off of Jake Owen's pass to the right side of the net.

The winning goal came at the 104:01 mark off a corner kick. A loose ball fell to Owen who buried it in the upper left portion of the net to close out an exciting yet frustrating loss.

Concordia returns to action Wednesday afternoon when they host Rockford College.
