Oct. 2, 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team suffered their second 4-0 loss within 24 hours this afternoon. Today's loss came at the hands of Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Conference contest at AU's Vago Field.
The Cougars' best opportunities came early in the match
. Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) had a shot blocked, and
Alex Lopez (Streamwood, IL/H.S.) saw his shot go wide of the goal. Concordia also earned a couple of corner kicks in the first 10 minutes but was unable to take advantage of them.
Spartans' leading scorer Anthony Parra gave the home team the lead in the 23rd minute. Parra alertly headed in a shot that had ricocheted off the goalpost.
Later in the half, the Cougars found themselves in trouble when a collision in the box gave Aurora a penalty kick. Xavier Carrillo fired from the spot but
Jose Landa (Cicero, IL/Morton East) made a diving save to keep the deficit at one.
In the 36th minute, Carrillo receoved another scoring chance, and he did not miss this one. He received a pass from Alex Brunell and beat Landa for a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans limited the Cougars' opportunities in the second half and iced the game with goals in the 56th and 73rd minutes. Aurora finished with 27 shots to Concordia's seven. Landa played the first 65 minutes in goal and made six saves.
Gabriel Lozano (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) played the final 25 minutes and was not forced to make any saves.
Concordia (1-9-2, 1-3-2) will travel to Edgewood College Saturday afternoon for a conference match.
