Chris Thompson Earns NAC's Weekly Football Honor

Box Score
Oct. 23, 2012 – Concordia University Chicago senior linebacker Chris Thompson (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran North) was named the Football (Defense) Student-Athlete of the Week by the Northern Athletics Conference for the week of Oct. 15-21.

Thompson was at the center of two defensive takeaways in the Cougars' seventh win of the season, a 38-34 win over Aurora University on Oct. 20. The first came late in the first quarter after Aurora drove to Concordia's three-yard line. On a third-and-goal, the Spartans' rusher had the ball knocked loose. Thompson recovered at the 12-yard line, and the play created a 14-point swing as Concordia subsequently drove 88 yards for a score.

Thompson's second big play came as Aurora was on the move in the fourth quarter, Concordia holding a 31-28 lead. On a run up the middle, Thompson swiped the ball from the rusher's hands, turned and ran 44 yards to the end zone for a 10-point Cougar lead. The score eventually provided the game-winning points for Concordia as Aurora added a late touchdown.

The Cougars' third-year starter at outside linebacker, who also recorded eight tackles for the game, was lauded by head coach Lonnie Pries. “Chris' play in the fourth quarter was an example of a senior making a big-time play, a gutsy play when he saw an opportunity. He's one of those guys that is not afraid to come through in a clutch situation.”
