Box Score
Sept. 21, 2011 - For the fourth time in their last five matches, the Concordia men's soccer team wound up on the short end of a one-goal game. A late rally fell short as the Cougars lost to the Milwaukee School of Engineering this evening at Time Warner Cable Stadium in Milwaukee.
The Cougars were outshot 14-1 in the first half, but they made their lone shot count for the opening tally of the game. Junior transfer
Tyler Nehmer (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) celebrated his return to his hometown with his first goal of the season. Nehmer's strike was assisted by
Alex Lopez (Streamwood, IL/H.S.) and was his first goal of the season.
Concordia's lead lasted most of the half, but the Raiders evened the score just 2:18 before the half. Patrick Gathof was set up by Dan Hosko, with his shot getting past Cougar keeper
Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East). Guzman made six saves for the half.
The second half shots were even at five apiece, but two of the Raiders' shots found the back of the net. Mariano Suaso-Rodriguez netted both of the hosts' tallies, the first coming in the 64th minute and the second just eight minutes later for a 3-1 lead.
Freshman
DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) gave the Cougars hope when he scored his second goal in as many games. His goal was set up by
Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North), but the Cougars were unable to create any significant opportunities over the final three minutes.
The Cougars (1-7-0, 0-2-0 NAC) will return to Wisconsin this Saturday when they challenge Marian University in Fond du Lac.
