Oct. 20, 2011 - The Concordia Cougar men's soccer team fell to the University of Chicago 4-0 in non-conference play at Chicago's Stagg Field this evening. The loss ended the Cougars' three-game unbeaten streak.
Concordia stood up to a fierce Chicago attack through the first half. The Maroons dominated play in shots by a wide 18-2 margin, but the Cougars trailed by only two goals at the half. Alan Pikna gave Chicago a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, and Stanton Coville doubled the lead in the 37th minute.
John Gehm (Frankenmuth, MI/H.S.) made six saves in the half to keep the Cougars in the chase. The Cougars' scoring opportunities came in the first few minutes after Pikna's goal, but shots by Danny Colapietro (Chicago, IL/Maine South) and DeAndre McLaurin (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) missed wide of the goal.
Coville scored his second goal of the match just 39 seconds into the start of the second half, and Steven Chase tallied six minutes later to close out the scoring.
Chicago keeper Elek Lane made one save in the second half, that coming off the foot of Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North). Concordia's only other shot in the half came from Taylor Nehmer (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran), an attempt which missed wide.
The Cougars (3-13-1) will finish the regular season next Tuesday, Oct. 25 with a game at Dominican University.
