Oct. 12, 2011 - The Cougar women's soccer team won their second straight game this afternoon with a 7-0 rout of host Rockford College. Concordia improved to 8-6 overall and 3-6 in the Northern Athletics Conference with the win.
Once again, it was forward Alyssa Soulis (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North) leading the way with a multi-goal effort. Soulis banged home five of the Cougars' seven tallies, tying her with Cheyenne Martinez-Trevino (2009) for the most goals in a single-game. She is now just two goals behind Kari Zielke's season record of 19 set in the 2005 season.
Soulis opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a pass from Samantha Bredeson (Rosharon, TX/Angleton). The sophomore then added unassisted tallies in the 17th, 23rd and 24th minutes, the latter two coming just 24 seconds apart (another new team record). Concordia held a 17-2 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes as they went to the break with a 4-0 lead.
Madison Thompson (Zionsville, IN/H.S.), who assisted on Soulis' fourth goal, made it a 5-0 game in the 69th minute with her second goal in the last two games. Later, it was Stephanie Rivas (Elmhurst, IL/Arts & Business) scoring her first goal in a Cougar uniform on an unassisted strike. Soulis closed out the scoring just 1:14 before the final whistle.
The Cougars finished the game with a 40-3 edge in shots. Callie Hasselbring (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) made one save in recording her third shutout of the season.
Concordia will go for three in a row on Friday afternoon when they host Maranatha Baptist Bible College.
