Box Score
Sept. 22, 2010 - The Cougar men's soccer team improved to 2-0-1 over their last three matches with this afternoon-s 4-1 win at Eureka College.
Freshman Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) scored the first three goals of his collegiate playing career to pave the way to victory. Joss' first goal came in the 14th minute as he took a pass from Luke Stricker (Geneva, IL/H.S.) and slotted the ball past the Eureka keeper. That would be the only goal of the half despite the fact that Concordia doubled Eureka's shot total 16-8.
Joss made it a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute when he scored unassisted. Just 35 seconds later, Chayanne Martinez (Carpentersville, IL/Dundee-Crown) notched his second goal of the season to increase the lead to three. Joss completed his hat trick eight minutes later when he put home Stricker's second assist of the game.
The Red Devils spoiled Bart Loos' (Evans, NY/St. Francis) shutout with under five minutes remaining when Cody Halstead got loose inside the box and fired just under the crossbar.
Concordia fired 13 shots to Eureka's seven in the second half for a final 29-15 advantage. Loos finished with four saves while Eureka's two keepers combined for five.
The Cougars (2-3-1) will return to action quickly when they play under the lights at North Central College. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
