Cougar Men Settle for Draw Against Lakeland

Box Score
Sept. 19, 2010 - The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team was in search of their second straight win this afternoon as they hosted Lakeland College in the opener of Northern Athletics Conference play. The two teams battled through 110 minutes but, in the end, nothing was settled as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
Chris Jahns (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) put the Cougars on the board in the 53rd minute. The junior midfielder controlled the ball on the left side just inside the box, made a slight move to elude a defender and hit a low shot to the near post that snuck under the keeper and into the net.
The Cougars appeared to have the momentum on their side as they had the territorial edge for several minutes following the goal. However, in the 69th minute, a throw-in deep in the Cougars' zone came all the way into the middle of the box where Adam Benson banged it in from point-blank range to knot the score.
The physical aspect of the match picked up over the final part of the second half. The Cougars had a couple of chances to retake the lead, first on a shot across the goal mouth by Samuel Hambissa (Ostrander, OH/Buckeye Valley) that missed ithe far post and then, in the final seconds, a shot by Jahns that sailed high.
In the two overtime periods, the Muskies had the better scoring opportunities, but Concordia's Bart Loos (Evans, NY/St. Francis)made two clutch saves to keep the game tied. Loos finished with four saves.
