Sept. 17, 2010 - The Concordia Cougar men's soccer team traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois today to play Illinois College in a match rescheduled from Sept. 3. The Cougars brought home a 1-0 win, snapping a three-game skid that had followed a tie in the season-opening match on Sept. 8 against Robert Morris.
The Blueboys had a slim 5-4 edge in shots in the first half, but the Cougars began to take control of the match in the second half. Nine different Cougars took shots at the net, but it was freshman Rolando Zuniga's (Melrose Park, IL/St. Joseph) shot in the 75th minute that found the back of the net. Zuniga found a space about 25 yards from goal and fired a shot that found its way through a screen and beat the keeper. It was Zuniga's first collegiate goal, and it turned into the game-winner when Concordia locked things down over the final 15 minutes.
Senior Bart Loos (Evans, NY/St. Francis) earned the win in goal. He was credited with seven saves out of the Blueboys' 10 total.
