Maranatha Comes Back to Beat Cougar Men
Oct. 23, 2010 - A three-goal second half by the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders spelled defeat for the Concordia Cougars this afternoon by a 3-1 score in Watertown, Wisconsin.
The Cougars controlled the pace of the play for the first half and emerged from the first 45 minutes with a 7-3 lead in shots and the game's only goal. Some nice one-two passing by Bryan Lopez (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) and Mario Grana (Elmhurst, IL/York Community) set up Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) from in close. The 30th minute goal was Joss' team-leading sixth of the season.
Maranatha came out for the second half and captured the momentum, outshooting Concordia by a 13-6 margin. Jacob Stoeckmann equalized in the 63rd minute. Kevin Vigneault then gave the Crusaders the lead in the 74th minute, and brian Lundquist provided an insurance tally with just under six minutes remaining.
Bart Loos (Evans, NY/St. Francis) made three saves in goal for the Cougars while the Crusaders' Tyler Holley stopped seven of Concordia's 13 shots.
The Cougars will host Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday afternoon in the season finale.
