Men's Soccer Gives Good Showing Against Dominican
Oct. 20, 2010 - Concordia-Chicago's men's soccer team faced their stiffest challenge of the season this afternoon as they entertained crosstown rival Dominican Univesity. The Stars entered play today undefeated and with the second-best defense in all of Division III, having surrendered just two goals the entire year. The Cougars put forth a strong effort, but the Stars did all of their damage in a 17-minute stretch late in the first half in winning 4-0.
Senior Bart Loos (Evans, NY/St. Francis) was strong in goal for Concordia with nine saves, but he was powerless to keep Dominican from opening the scoring in the 21st minute. Leo Elizalde put a nice finish on a cross from Trent Miller from about five yards out on the right side. Michael Kapusta's 20-yard rocket made the score 2-0 five minutes later, ad the visitors added tallies from Lio Tovar in the 27th minute and Nick Kulas in the 37th minute to wrap up the scoring.
The Cougars were held to just two shots on goal for the match, one by Chris Jahns (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) in the first half and the other by Mike Koslowski (Alsip, IL/Shepard) in the second half. Kyle Joss (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) had a scoring opportunit off of a corner kick, but his header sailed over the goal.
Concordia will play at Maranatha Baptist on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
