Jake Hawthorne (Fort Smith, Ark.) of the men’s soccer team is honored for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

           

Hawthorne scored the only goal of the Cougar men’s 1-0 win over Webster University in the Sept. 3 season opener. The 6’0” midfielder put his head on a long restart and nodded it past the keeper with just 17 seconds remaining in the first half. Hawthorne’s goal delivered the Cougars their first season-opening win in 11 years.

           

Hawthorne, the son of Bruce Hawthorne and Jamie Carter, is a 2010 graduate of Van Buren High School. He is a sophomore business management major.
