Athlete Awards Athletes of the Week Choose Awards Type All Athlete Awards Athletes of the Week Deontay Young Award Athletes of the Week Week Of 1/31/2011 Sport Men's Basketball Bio View Full Bio Deontay Young (Chicago, Ill.) of the men’s basketball team is honored for the week of Jan. 24-30. Young was named the Most Valuable Player of the Concordia Invitational Tournament in leading the Cougar men to their first CIT crown since 1998. Young scored 15 of his team-leading 19 points in the second half of the Cougars’ 72-63 win over Concordia Ann Arbor. The Cougars’ point guard also notched a double-double by adding 11 rebounds to the winning cause. Young hit a big three-point basket to put the Cougars up four with five minutes remaining and hit five free throws in the final minutes to ice the victory. Young, the son of Euggine Johnson, is a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Park High School. He is a senior business management major.
