Kayla Engelhard is in her second year as a graduate assistant coach for women's basketball and strength and conditioning coordinator at Concordia University Chicago.
"I see Kayla as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about basketball," says Rusty Rogers, head coach for women's basketball. "Her playing experience at Calvin and her Division III experience will allow her to be a great asset to the Cougars' basketball program."
A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Engelhard attended Valley Lutheran High School and then Calvin College where she played on the Knights' basketball team four years as a point guard. Engelhard helped lead Calvin to four consecutive MIAA league championships and an overall record of 100-15 during her tenure. She started every game of her collegiate career and averaged 10 points (13.1 in her senior year), three assists and two steals.
Working with CUC's student-athletes is an exciting prospect for Engelhard, who has coached summer basketball camps at both Calvin and Valley Lutheran. "I like the style of basketball they play, and I want to use my experience to help the team in any way that I am able," says Engelhard.
Engelhard earned a BS in exercise science with a minor in psychology from Calvin in 2015 and will begin work on her Master's in exercise science at Concordia-Chicago. She aspires to work as a strength and conditioning coordinator after graduation and is scheduled to take her certification test in 2015.
