Brian Welch

Brian Welch was named head coach of the Concordia Chicago Men's Lacrosse program in the summer of 2017.

In his second season at the helm, Welch soared the program to new heights as the Cougars recorded a 4-11 overall record, marking the winningest season in program history. In addition, he coached freshman Boston Dumas into becoming the program's first ever All-MLC honoree. Among a season of firsts, he also saw sophomore netminder Jack Liskey be named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, another first in the men's lacrosse program.

During his debut season in 2018, and just the third year since the program's birth, Welch led the team to its lone win of the season, and second win in program history, with a 9-5 victory over North Central University (MN).

Off the field, Welch had eight Cougars earn All-Academic Honors from the NACC in 2018. Among the eight student-athletes, was Jordan Loeffler who has earned All-Academic recognition each of the three years of CUC lacrosse's existence.

Welch is a 1997 graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN and earned his master’s at Ohio University in 2004. Upon graduation, he worked a series of jobs in the educational field, focusing on the areas of enrollment management and student success.

In 2013, Welch started up the Marian High School boy’s lacrosse program in Mishawaka, IN. In the program’s first three seasons, the Knights achieved a record of 31-15 and developed several players that went on to have successful college careers. Welch was named the 2013 IHSLA New Coach of the Year, coached two Indiana All-State players, two Academic All-State players and four honorable mention All-State players during his tenure. He also coached John Jessup to earn the 2013 Bob Scott Award, an award given to the top senior lacrosse player who represents top leadership skills on and off the field. Jessup beat out Notre Dame All-American and current Premiere Lacrosse League All-Star Sergio Perkovic, to win the award.

In 2015, Welch started up the western-most junior college lacrosse program in the country at Ancilla College in Donaldson, IN. The Chargers went 6-4 in their inaugural season and had two NJCAA Academic All-Americans. Welch was named the Region 12 Coach of the Year and had seven players named to the First and Second All-Region teams.

Currently residing in South Bend, IN, Welch is married to Dr. Andrea Welch, the Executive Director of Student Success and Retention at Valparaiso University.
