River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars made the short trip to Dominican University to face off against the Stars. After a physically demanding face-off, the Cougars defeated their rivals with a final score of 72-61, getting their third conference win in a row.
Inside the Box Score:
- Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) was tonight's leader with 14 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) followed up with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Tommy Zimmer (Steger, Ill.) walked away with 10 points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal.
- Leading in rebounds was Williams (nine rebounds), Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.), with nine rebounds, and Aaron Brown (Joliet, Ill.), with six rebounds.
Here's What Happened
First Half
Matthew Guthrie (Carlyle, Ill.) was the first to score for the half with a layup, followed up by layups from Zimmer. Johnson was able to get in a good jumper, 10-0. The Cougars went on a 12-point run before the Stars broke it up with a layup. Williams landed his first 3-pointer of the night, keeping a strong lead against the Stars. The Stars began to pick up the pace, but a driving layup from
AJ Willard (Germantown, Wis.) split things up, 18-9. Zimmer had put up four points back-to-back, giving the Cougars a 11-point lead. The Stars proceeded to go on a 12-point run against the Cougars until free throws by Lowery gave the Cougars a chance. The Cougars went into halftime in the lead with 28-23.
Second Half
The Stars began the scoring for the second half, putting them within two of the Cougars. Williams helped the Cougars break 30 points, 30-26. The Stars remained on their tails as a corner 3-point jumper was made. A 3-pointer from Johnson gave the Cougars a 10-point lead. Williams came in a little later with a 3-pointer, keeping up with the lead.
Jacob Robinson (Saint Louis, Mo.)made his way into the game and delivered a nice 3-pointer, making his mark. A Star got a layup in, putting the team within two.
Sebastian Hill (Decatur, Ill.) floated a layup in, 54-48. With 0:50 remaining, Lowery had put up a layup, keeping the Cougars up by 12 points. The Cougars defeated their rivals with a final score of 72-61.
