The Cougars Fall Short on Day Two of CIT

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars women's basketball team was in Ann Arbor Michigan for day two of the 72nd Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) where they took on the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Khaliah Reid (Naperville, Ill.) led the Cougar offense in day two of CIT with 10 points and the lone Cougar to reach double digits.
  • Sydney Nimsakont (Glendale Heights, Ill.) and Aniyah Hinton-Henry (Gary, Ind.) each followed closely behind contributing nine points each, respectively.

First Quarter

Mikalah Ellis set the tone for the game putting the Cougars on board first with two consecutive layups where the Cougars were up 4-0 early.

The Falcons answered from behind the arch but Reid made sure to showcase her abilities with a fastbreak the following play. With the score at 8-7 favoring the Cougars, the Falcons took their first timeout of the game. Out of timeout, the Falcons went 10-3, pulling them into the lead. Heading into the second quarter, the Cougars trailed 17-11.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, the Falcons increased their lead by one, but Nimsakont hit a knockdown three bringing the Cougars back within four.

However, The Falcons continued to soar and increase their lead. Facing a scoring drought, the Cougars struggled to get anything going offensively and only scored four more points in the quarter. Heading into half the score was 32-18, the Falcons.

Third Quarter

The Falcons kept the heat going in the third quarter opening with a three that was quickly answered by a Reid layup. From there the Cougars were left scoreless for three minutes of game time until Hinton-Henry and Emma Nickerson (Lake City, Mich.) converted on back-to-back layups where the score was 41-24, the Falcons.

In the last five minutes of the quarter, Nimsakont knocked down one more three for the Cougars, but still trailed 47-27.

Fourth Quarter

Reid and Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) took matters into their own hands in the fourth where Reid was brought to the line for two free throws and Kulig hit a mid range jumper.

The efforts of the two chipped at the point deficit but the Cougars were still behind 50-32. With just six minutes to go in the game, Hinton-Henry became the show, where she scored six of her nine points. The efforts of the Cougars was not enough to come out on top, and unfortunately, they fell with a final score of 64-46.
